about

"Chocolate Mask" recorded live at The Rally Point in Memphis in 2007. I was drunk, chatty and dealing with lots of shit (soon to be divorced, etc.). This night was a typical gig in a Southern town: show up early to folks cleaning up mess from the previous night’s "Extreme Midget and Women's Jell-O Wrestling" only to slide around on sugar water soaked carpet and hope the red liquid wasn't blood. Also, the toilet: no running water; just a hole to Hell that smelled like ammonia and beer. To top it off, you can’t go 500 miles in the South without folks knowing each other; the bartenders immediately asked if we knew Todd and Brian from Head on the Door when we said we were from Montgomery. I got tanked because I was indulging in escapism due to my impending divorce. The best part is Steve and Vonda launching into the song while I’m ranting. Vocals were delivered, but hardly near the microphone. Enjoy. - KJ
